A buying service, not a marketplace

Considered Chinese goods,
bought properly.

Tell us the occasion, the person and the budget. We propose a short list, quote a final price, inspect the piece ourselves, and only then ship it to you.

How it works

Six steps. You approve every one that costs money.

We never buy first and bill later. Nothing is purchased until the final quote is accepted and paid.

We do not hold stock and we do not advance funds. Your payment confirms the order; our job is to execute it carefully.
01

You describe the need

A gift, a room, a collection, a problem you cannot name a product for. Budget and deadline included.

02

We reply with options

Within 24 hours on working days: usually three directions, with honest trade-offs — including “don’t buy this” when that is the right answer.

03

You receive an itemised quote

Item, service fee, insured shipping and duties shown separately. Valid for 48 hours while we confirm availability.

04

You pay, we source

Funds arrive first. If the item cannot be secured as described, you are refunded in full, including our fee.

05

We inspect and show you

Photographs, video and packing record before anything leaves. For ceramics, the base mark is photographed piece by piece.

06

Tracked delivery and aftercare

Insured, tracked international shipping. Damage in transit is covered. We remain reachable after delivery.

What we source

A short shelf, not an endless aisle.

We list only what we can obtain reliably, inspect properly and explain clearly. Ranges below are indicative; your final quote is confirmed before payment.

Contemporary ceramics

Studio porcelain and stoneware from Jingdezhen and independent workshops. Makers, marks and condition documented.

Indicative US$ 120–1,500

Suzhou double-sided embroidery

Hand-worked pieces with distinct imagery on both faces. Framed or unframed, with maker attribution where available.

Indicative US$ 300–3,000

Objects with a story

Tea ware, scholar’s desk objects, textiles and small-run design. Chosen for distinctiveness, not for trend value.

Indicative US$ 60–900
We do not deal in antiquities. Items dating from 1911 or earlier may be subject to export review or prohibition in China, and we decline them. We also decline anything we cannot authenticate with confidence.
When you don’t know the product

Start with the problem.
We’ll find the object.

“A farewell gift for a colleague who hates clutter.” “Something Chinese for a minimalist living room.” “A wedding present under $400 that won’t end up in a cupboard.”

This is the part of the service we are proudest of. You get three considered directions, the reasoning behind each, and permission to say no.

An example of our answer

Brief: a gift for a design-conscious host, under $350, easy to carry home.

Option A — hand-painted tea cup, single owner’s setQuiet, usable, personal
Option B — small framed embroideryMore formal, display piece
Option C — nothingIf the brief is wrong, we say so

We will tell you which we would choose, and why. We will also tell you when a local shop is the better answer.

Our promises

Four rules we will not bend.

  • 01No hidden markup.
Our concierge fee is shown as its own line, normally 8–15% of item value with a minimum per order. You see the source price.
  • 02Full refund if we cannot deliver as described.
Item unavailable, wrong maker, condition not as represented — you are refunded in full, including our fee.
  • 03Inspection before dispatch, with evidence.
Photographs, video and packing record. Nothing ships on our say-so alone.
  • 04Damage in transit is covered.
Insured shipping and a clear replacement-or-refund process for breakage.
What this service is not

We are not the fastest way to buy something.

We are the careful way. Expect days of conversation, not one-click checkout. Expect us to ask about the recipient, the room and the reason.

We are also not appraisers of antiques, and we do not offer investment advice, authenticity guarantees beyond what our documentation supports, or medical, legal or financial guidance.

Payment confirms an order. We do not advance our own funds, and we do not ship before funds clear.

Questions, answered plainly

Before you ask.

Why don’t you show fixed prices?

Because availability and workmanship vary piece to piece. We show indicative ranges and then confirm one final itemised price, valid for 48 hours. You never pay before seeing it.

How is your fee calculated?

Normally 8–15% of the item’s source price, with a minimum fee per order, shown separately. Complex sourcing or custom commissions are quoted before you commit.

Who pays import duties and taxes?

Unless your quote explicitly says duties are included, they are payable at destination according to your country’s rules. We declare accurately and do not undervalue parcels.

Can you prove an item is genuine?

We provide maker information, available certificates and our own inspection evidence. For contemporary ceramics we photograph the base mark. We do not claim more certainty than the evidence supports, and we do not handle antiquities.

What if it arrives broken?

Contact us with photographs within 48 hours of delivery. Insured shipments are covered; we arrange replacement where possible or refund.

Can I return something I simply don’t like?

Handmade and sourced-to-order pieces are generally not returnable for change of mind. If the item is not as described, that is different: we refund in full.

How long does it take?

Most orders take two to five weeks from confirmed payment to delivery, depending on sourcing and destination. Custom work takes longer and is quoted separately.
